President's Message
- The
Strength of Your Resolve
February 2002
Do we commit to reach our goals with
the same granite resolve that Jared showed? Or do we let everyday inconveniences
become challenges, and challenges become roadblocks?

Melaleuca
continues to grow rapidly. We are thrilled to see so many families prospering,
both in terms of health and financial security, because they use Melaleuca
products. The more they use and share the products, the more wellness they
create!
A new year has just begun, and we anticipate
that more and more families will find real wellness this year. This is so
exciting to me! They can have the balance of wellness they've always wanted
because someone shared Melaleuca's products with them. Whether their goals are
related to weight, physical health, debt, family togetherness or intellectual
growth, in some way Melaleuca can help them reach their goals.
As I watched the results of the wellness goals
that many of you posted online, I was thrilled to see how determined some people
are to reach those goals. Their determination is evident in their daily
activities-they hardly ever let a day go by when they aren't doing something to
reach a goal. Yet you could see how some people got excited about their goals at
first, then let their intensity slack off. Maybe they realized just how hard it
would be to reach that goal. Maybe they had a life event distract them, or faced
unexpected challenges.
That's the beauty of starting a new year! This
is a great time for new goals, a new focus and a stronger resolve. It's
wonderful to think that a fresh new year is in front of us, and we can make it
the best ever! No matter what challenges we had last year, we can complete this
year with a sense of accomplishment and celebration by resolving now to reach
our goals.
I recently read about someone who has overcome
more than the typical, everyday challenges in his quest to reach his wellness
goals. His name is Jared Horomona. He is 31 years old, lives in New Zealand, and
faces challenges everyday because he was born with cerebral palsy. But to him
cerebral palsy is not an excuse or even a challenge anymore. It is simply an
inconvenience that means he has to do things a little differently.
When he was young, Jared could not be kept from
doing normal kid stuff. He couldn't walk, but he crawled around until his
parents consented to tie crutches on to his arms so he could get places faster
and be more independent. He even climbed trees and went swimming! Jared's family
moved to Hawaii when he was three so his dad could attend Brigham Young
University there. When Jared began going to school, he had to live away from his
family during the week. Instead of feeling lonely, he learned to smile and make
friends, and today that winning smile is still always on his face.
Eight years ago, Jared decided he wanted to be
able to wrestle better with his brothers and dad, so he started weight training.
Because he can't stand, he kneels while he does many of his exercises. And
looking at his knees, you can tell he's committed to his workout!
In 1997, Jared competed in the New York City
Marathon. At the end of the first day he had completed only 22 of the 26.2
miles. But he was resolved to finish, so the next day he returned to the race.
While the other able-bodied competitors were relaxing, Jared was on his crutches
walking towards the finish line. As he got closer, he noticed he had a police
escort. Then the marathon organizers respectfully put the finish line tape back
up. And one police officer was inspired to get out of his car and walk the last
few steps with him. After 20 1/2 hours, he had completed the race and was wild
with excitement!
But that wasn't the end of his goals. In the
year 2000, Jared decided to enter a fitness competition. In just a few weeks he
added more muscle mass than some people add in twelve months! He was dedicated
to making the most of his exercise every day, and the results were enough for
him to win his competition category. He's now looking forward to reaching new
goals, like completing college, driving a car and getting married.
"If you
want to achieve your goal badly enough," says Jared, "you'll move heaven and
earth to get it done." We can see that he believes that philosophy-he would
never let anything stop him from reaching his goals. But it's not Jared's
physical strength that makes him able to reach the finish line. There have been
many stronger people. It's the strength of his resolve that makes the
difference. His resolve is like granite. He is willing to keep going-even after
22 miles in a marathon, even after an hour of lifting weights-because he is
resolved to reach his full potential.
How resolved are we? Do we commit to reach our
goals with the same granite resolve that Jared showed? Or do we let everyday
inconveniences become challenges, and challenges become roadblocks?
I know that you can reach your full potential
this year, if you have a stronger resolve. You have products that will help you
reach your potential. You have the ability to share those products with others,
creating a potential for financial opportunities. And you can find the support
you need, whether from family, friends or team members, that will help you stay
resolved. Now it's up to you! Don't let your mind start saying, "I can't,"
before you've given it a 110% effort. Stay resolved! Reach your goals! Make this
the best year you've ever had.
Sincerely,
Frank
