When Life Takes Unexpected Turns

Susan was trying to juggle three jobs and had just lost $1500 to a home-based business scam when she was approached by Executive Director, Jacque Simmons about building a Melaleuca business. Her first response to hearing about a home-based business was, “No way!” she recalls laughing.

“Jacque was very persistent with me,” she says. “We ended up talking two or three times a week. We got along really well. We became friends and totally hit it off. I think I shocked her because a few months later I said, ‘I want to try some products,’ and her response was, ‘What?’”

When the products were delivered to Susan’s house she says her husband was not happy. “My husband was totally against it. The day the Melaleuca box came he was with me when we picked up the mail and I heard about it all the way home!” But as soon as Jeff tried the products, he was sold. “Jeff has horrible allergies,” she says. “Even as a kid he had to get allergy shots. He gets really affected just being near some products or even walking down the aisles in the grocery store. He’ll come in from the garage with his eyes watering and red but when he did the laundry for the first time, using Melaleuca products, he came out of the laundry room after the second load of laundry saying, “I love this stuff! Don’t ever use anything else.”

“I usually do the laundry and household chores and so the bathroom and laundry room and kitchen have always been sore spots for me because that is when my allergies act up the most,” Jeff jumps in. “But since we started using Melaleuca products I haven’t had a problem with my eyes or throat or sneezing. Now I’m not even bothered by going into the grocery store because I don’t have to go down the aisles that carry those products anymore. We also have very hard water here in this state and I love the fact that you don’t have to use much of the Diamond Brite and the dishes are spotless. That is amazing for out here,” Jeff says.

After the first 60 to 90 days of building a Melaleuca business, Susan says life took an unexpected turn. Susan was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a chronic condition that causes widespread pain and fatigue, and says she is humbled every time she thinks of how thankful she is she had Melaleuca to fall back on. “I would have had to quit my job anyway because of this illness and it wouldn’t have been as easy to quit because we would’ve needed the income! It’s a really big blessing for us we had been building a Melaleuca business. The extra $600 to $800 we make with Melaleuca every month is totally necessary,” she says. “You have to have a two-person income these days to survive. I don’t know very many people that are surviving on one income. The extra income we make is just a necessity.”

The Arners say the income they receive through building a Melaleuca business has also given them a lot if “niceties” in life they would not have been able to afford otherwise. “We’ve been able to visit our grandkids in Florida and granddaughter in Oregon and make frequent trips to Las Vegas where we have a grandson. Without Melaleuca those trips would be out completely! The Daily for Life Pack also saved us a lot of money because my health has improved so much that I don’t have to take all the expensive pharmaceutical drugs I used to take. I have more energy now than I’ve had in years!”

For Jeff, it’s given him more peace of mind knowing Susan’s health is improving and they can share products with their friends that really change lives. “It has been very comforting for me to know we have something to help us survive better,” Jeff says. “It’s helped our relationship too. We always try to work as a team. And I am very into ethics. I work for the church and it’s nice knowing I can feel so good about sharing these products.”

Even the family pet has benefited from Melaleuca! “Our Miniature Dachshunds liked to piddle on the carpet which means we REALLY like PreSpot and Sol-U-Mel for the carpet! It eliminated the odor and it cleaned those spots,” Susan says. “She also basically threw up all the time starting when she was a puppy but now that we are using healthier cleaning products she doesn’t throw up! It’s really made a difference in her life.”

As the Arners make goals for the future they say they have a new ‘Why’ that is really pushing them forward. “The house directly across the street from my parents has become available so we’re probably going to start negotiations in the next couple of weeks with the owners. My parents are getting into their eighties and it would be a real God send to live right across the street and if we keep building our Melaleuca business we’ll be able to do that! We just want to say thank you to Frank, for starting this company and changing our lives!”
