When John Oriettas received word that his regional sales position was being ‘downsized’ in 2001, the second surprise announcement of its kind in less than three years, he knew it was time to make a change.

“I didn’t want to work for anyone else ever again,” he says. “I knew I needed to find a way to work from home. The clear choice was Consumer-Direct Marketing, and Melaleuca was the way to go.”

While John’s Melaleuca business didn’t really come to life until after 2001, John had been a Melaleuca customer since 1996. In the interim, John received a monthly check for about $100 just because some of his friends had enrolled as well.

“That, to me, was really powerful,” he says. “I hadn’t really tried to build a business for those years, and I was still getting a residual check.”

John started by enrolling a few more friends, including now-Executive Directors V Jean-Pierre and Diane Laperle. While John sporadically built his business, he watched as the Laperles and others filled Quebec with Melaleuca. It took one more epiphany for John to really get on course.

“I read a quote the other day that reminded me of how I was with my business: ‘The main reason your business is not where it should be is because it does not have a leader others believe in or a leader who believes in himself,’” John says. “That was me. My mental blueprint was set for mediocrity instead of success. I knew I had to change my thinking.”

At just the right time, John stumbled onto a new source of inspiration that helped him to reset his focus.

“I read a book entitled ‘Secrets of the Millionaire Mind,’” John says. “I started to see things through an abundance mindset rather than a scarcity mindset. It changed the way I thought about finances and success—it was a catalyst for me.”

A new mindset brought new leadership for John’s organization. He swiftly found his change in attitude attracting other passionate entrepreneurs.

“I went to a seminar attached to the book that inspired me,” he says. “That’s where I met Nancy Raymond—she actually approached me. Now she’s a Director V, and she’ll be a Senior Director soon. That was a big shift for my organization—it brought some new blood.

“All of a sudden I was attracting higher quality people and feeling more confident in my own ability to help them achieve success. I also recently enrolled a new girl, who, I expect, will be a Director II this month.”

Now, John’s latest focus is leading his new team by example—and doing so consistently.

“I’ve made a commitment to enroll four customers each month from now on,” he says. “I know now that when I’m confident, I act more confident, and other people can see it in me. It’s brought a new energy to my approach to the business.

“Of course none of this would be possible without all my customers and some very special people. I am so grateful to all of you. Thank you. You are truly an ALL STAR ‘Dream Team’!
